Heal Your Gut Soup

This is the recipe I use when I start the detox. For three days I nourish my gut lining with bone broth filled with tons of mushrooms, vegetables, and meatballs. This may sound complicated, but once you get all the pieces put together, it's as easy as 1-2-3. The first step is bone broth: slowly boiling the minerals, collagen, glycine, choline, and amino acids out of the bones and into a medicinal elixir. Nothing heals your gut quite like bone broth, especially for such an inexpensive bag of bones.

The second step is vegetables: chop up a lot of seasonal carrots, celery, onions, garlic, mushrooms, turnips, parsnips, kohlrabi, beets, radishes, cabbage, bok choi, kale, peas, chard... I could go on all day.  Add in herbs, pepper, chilis, and sea salt to taste.

The third step is meatballs: Take 1 lb ground meat of choice and sprinkle over it 1 tsp sea salt, 1/8 tsp pepper, 1/4 tsp paprika, and 1/4 tsp onion or garlic granules. Mix with your hand and roll into small meatballs. This is so simple my husband and kids often do it for me.

Heal Your Gut Soup

  1. Pour enough broth to fill a pot and bring to a boil.
  2. Turn down to a low simmer and add all of the vegetables, herbs, and spices for 5 minutes
  3. Toss in the meatballs and continue to simmer gently for another 5 minutes

The broth will provide the nutrients necessary to heal the gut lining. The vegetables will provide the fiber, vitamins, and minerals, necessary to to keep you regular, and the meatballs will provide the protein escorts to help the toxins flush out of the body.

A super addition to Heal Your Gut Soup is to add a fermented food. The fermented food will help feed the large intestine, (your immune system) with a good dose of probiotics. The key to healing your gut lining is not to try and sterilize it and kill off your beautiful gut garden of bacteria, but to grow flowers instead of weeds.

Bacteria is a necessary part of your healthy gut.

  2. Sour kraut
  3. Pickles
  4. Salmon Roe (inexpensive caviar)
  5. Pickled ginger
  6. Miso
  7. Kefir
