New Year, Nourished You: A Gentle Detox for Body and Soul
How are you feeling?
Let’s take a moment to check in and see if there are any pesky health problems you meant to deal with but may not have allowed the space and time to address.
Do you have time for a 1-minute body scan to see what areas may need attention?
Let’s begin by coming to a comfortable seated position, put your feet on the ground, sit up as tall as you can, and close your eyes if that feels comfortable. Take a deep inhale, letting your belly rise, and then exhale slowly, feeling everything settle.
Start at the base of your spine to your feet. Are you having lower back pain, hip pain, knee pain, ankle or foot problems? Next, move up through the digestive system and note whether or not you are suffering from indigestion, bloating, allergies, or pain. Consider each organ system and all of your hormones, are they in balance and giving you youthful energy? Finally, acknowledge your heart and your brain. How are your blood pressure, your nervous system, and your anxiety levels?
Whether it seems like normal morning stiffness or random moments of brain fog, please know these do not need to be forever problems. The human body is capable of healing if we provide the right nourishment, nutrition, physical activity, and mindfulness.
Many of the current physical ailments like cardiovascular disease, diabetes, and obesity can all benefit and even be brought into remission with a healthy diet and lifestyle change. I wrote the 28-Day Detox to help you reverse the disease, not with medication or supplements, but by changing your way of life to one that fuels you with a sustainable diet, a love for food, and vibrant energy.
What the Food Foundation Detox Looks Like
After indulging over the holidays, most find it easy to give up the alcohol and treats and turn to my gentle elimination diet. I love to do the Food Foundation detox in January - not because I want to punish myself, but because I feel like I’ve had enough and am ready to add in more nourishing foods that make me feel good.
I avoid overly restrictive diets as they usually lead to failure or an eating disorder. Instead, we will focus on sustainable choices you will want to eat. If you’ve tried keto, paleo, autoimmune protocols, or other extreme elimination diets and failed, I can guarantee you are not alone. Fad diets are impossible to maintain and burnout usually results in binge eating or orthorexia.
To start my gentle detox, you’ll receive a list of healing foods you CAN eat, and it’s a lengthy list! I promise you will not starve yourself, and you will build healthy habits to nourish your body all year long by learning to listen to your body and honor its needs. This is NOT an expensive supplement program: I focus on food as medicine, mindful eating, and nourishing your body and soul.
After 4 weeks of nutrition guidance, you will leave with a collection of tools to keep up with the changes you made - a cookbook, shopping lists, informational guides, and more to remind you of what we discussed in our weekly meetings. In addition to weekly LIVE meetings, each day you will be sent a new topic to support you through the detox. Some days will focus on mindfulness techniques, others will help you identify non-nutritious foods, and some will lead you to find sustainable alternatives. This is a gentle detox, designed to give your body a break from the stressors that lead to disease and allow your body the space to heal.
Why the Food Foundation Detox?
During the month, I will give nutrition advice to the small community, and then work with you individually to ensure the process is safe and effective for you. Detoxification can be a strain on the body, particularly the liver and kidneys, as they work to eliminate toxins. I can tailor the detox approach to your specific needs, taking into account factors like medical history, current health status, and unique nutritional requirements.
Additionally, testing can identify specific problem areas, such as gastrointestinal imbalances, nutrient deficiencies, or hormonal imbalances, which might otherwise go unnoticed. Each week we will check in with you to get feedback and adjust your detox regimen as needed.
My education deepened this last year through my doctoral program and our LIVE meetings will highlight new findings in more ‘what can I do about it’ language. I will still be using evidence-based research to give guidance and support but the focus this year will be making nutrition easy to access.
